Serving Scarborough

Our goal is to provide the Camp Carnival program to youth all over Toronto.  However, 2007 will mark its launch with a pilot-scaled initiative in the former Toronto East borough of Scarborough.

Why Scarborough?  The immediate need for community services, significant multicultural demographic and proximity to resources, makes Scarborough an idyllic backdrop for the launch of Camp Carnival.  Attesting to its urgent local need and inadequate local services, Scarborough encompasses 6 of the 13 priority poverty-stricken neighbourhoods identified by the City of Toronto alongside United Way of Greater Toronto.11  In this environment, Camp Carnival can serve as an effective model for coercing the involvement of other ethnic communities in youth outreach.

Camp Carnival aims to demonstrate the role community can play in filling this void and positively influencing youth development.   Emphasis is placed on sparking the desire to learn.  We aim to restore our youth’s self-image while allowing them to see the rewards of becoming actively involved in their community.
